Welcome to the Administrative Registries domain. This domain consists of the Real-Time Location System topic that passed normative ballot in the January 2010 ballot cycle.

The Patient Administration work group appreciates the contributions of Amit Popat and others of EPIC who provided the detailed requirements for the Real-Time Location System topic. The work group also wants to thank EPIC and Patient Technology Systems for reviewing this standard during its Trial Use period.

  1. RIM semantics call for the code attribute of an entity to convey the information about the specific kind of entity an instance represents. As a consequence the code attribute for a Manufactured Material Entity must be drawn from the ManufacturedMaterialEntityType domain. A technical correction was applied to the Real Time Location Tracking System information model diagrams to make this requirement more obvious.
  2. Based on a suggestion from a voter in the final ballot the work group put forward a vocabulary harmonization proposal to add a new sub-domain under the ManufacturedMaterialEntityType domain called ManufacturedMaterialTrackingTagType. Implementation profiles could constrain message instances to use this sub-domain of ManufacturedMaterialEntityType bound to value sets of codes representing types of tracking tags.

The Registries domain collects HL7 artifacts for administrative registries. It may eventually include registries of identified persons, patients, providers, equipment and service delivery locations.

Description

The Administrative Registries D-MIM is an elaboration of the HL7 Reference Information Model (RIM) describing the set of classes, attributes and associations required to exchange information between administrative registries and other healthcare applications. Administrative registries include Patient Registries, Identified Person Registries, Provider Registries and Service Delivery Location Registries. The focal classes in the D-MIM are:

  • Patient - A role played by a LivingSubject as a recipient or potential recipient of health care services from a healthcare provider Organization (scoper).
    • A Patient can be covered by an insurance policy or government program conveyed in an A_Coverage CMET
    • The LivingSubject who is a Patient of one Organization may also be the the PatientOfOtherProvider who is responsible for some specified aspect of the patient's care, i.e., a principal or primary care provider.
  • Health Care Provider - A role played by a Person who is authorized to provide health care services by some authorizing agency (scoper). Provider Registries are currently defined in the Personnel Management domain. The class is included here to support Real Time Location System messages.
  • Id Tag - A role played by a real time location system tracking tag that is currently in the possession of a holder (patient, provider or device).
  • Identified Entity - A role played by a Person, NonPersonLivingSubject or Device that is identified by an Organization (scoper). This is the basis for Identified Person registries.
  • Living Subject - An entity that is or was alive such as a Person, an animal or a plant. These classes contain "administrative" attributes of interest to health care.
    • Personal Relationship is another living subject related to the focal living subject such as parent, sibling, spouse, neighbor
    • Care Giver is a living subject who provides primary care for the focal living subject at home
    • Member is the membership of the focal living subject in a Group such as a family, tribe or religious organization
    • Agent is a person or organization that is authorized to act on behalf of the focal living subject such as Guardian and Contact.
    • Guarantor is a person or organization that takes financial responsibility for the health care of the focal living subject
    • Birth Place is the location where the focal living subject was born or hatched
    • Other IDs conveys identifiers assigned to the focal living subject in other systems
    • The Person specialization of Living Subject also includes the following relationships:
      • Citizen - a relationship between the focal person who owes loyalty to and is entitled by birth or naturalization to the protection of a Nation
      • Employee - a relationship of the focal person with an organization to receive wages or salary. The purpose of this class is to identify the type of relationship the employee has to the employer rather than the nature of the work actually performed
      • Student - a relationship of the focal person to a school in which they are enrolled
      • Language Communication - the language communication capability of the focal person
  • Identity Document - An identification document that can be the subject of a verification process
  • Service Delivery Location - A role played by a Place at which services may be provided by an Organization (scoper).
